Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame 2018 Induction

The History Center is beyond pleased to announce the date for the upcoming induction of six remarkable athletes into our Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame! 

It's been nine years since our last Hall of Fame event, and there have been some remarkable athletes to come up in that time.  We're keeping the names of our  honorees are under wraps for the present, but look for the word soon!  In the meantime, please mark your calendars for the reception and ceremony on Thursday, May 24, from 6-8 PM at the Brenau Downtown Center.  See you there!

2018 Inductees;

Jenny Arthur - Born in Gaineville, Jenny Arthur has competed in International Weightlifting Federation-recognized tournaments since 2011. In addition to several World Championships, she was a member of the 2016 US Olympic Team

Chuck Clausen - Chuck coached college football at William & Mary and Ohio State. Then spent 15 years in the NFL at Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Diego. Chuck coached in 4 Rose Bowls and a Super Bowl. He passed away in 2015 after living in Hall County for over twenty years.

Counte Cooley - A Gainesville native, Counte began playing racquetball as a way to stay in shape, but found he had a real talent.  In 2012 he won the  National Racquetball Singles Champtionship.

Morgan House - Born and raised in Hall County, Morgan has been named the National Canoe/Kayak Male Athlete of the Year along with competing in the U.S. National Championships, Pan American Games, World Cup and the U.S. Sprint Team Trials.

Tasha Humphrey - Born in Gainesville, Humphrey completed her high school career and went on to be University of Georgia's second all-time scorer and fourth all-time rebounder. She then played for Team USA in the 2007 Pan American games, where she led the team to a gold. In 2008 she was drafted in the Women's National Basketball Association and has played for the Detroit Shock and the Washington Mystics.

Micah Owings - Micah came to the fore in high school as an outstanding baseall player, and still holds the Georgia high school home run record. He played in college for Georgia Tech before transfering to Tulane, where he played in the College World Series. He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondback in 2005 and played with them for two years before transferring to the Cincinatti Reds.
