Volunteer Opportunities




The History Center relies considerably on the services and talents of volunteers in the areas listed below. Other needs may surface as new programs and activities are planned. Please examine the list and contact us if you have any interest in volunteering, even if your special talent or interest is not listed. You will be oriented and/or trained as needed. Know that your help is greatly appreciated!

Desk Duty Volunteers
One or more 3-hour shifts (10-1 or 1-4)
Tues., Wed., Thurs. Fri., Sat.
Duties: Welcome visitors, answer phones, stuff envelopes, etc.
Training and support provided
Docents
September – May school group tours
Schedules as requested by teachers, usually mornings
Duties: Brief explanations/commentaries in exhibit area/s
Training and support provided
Gift Shop
One or more 3-hour shifts (10-1 or 1-4)
Duties: admissions, gift shop sales
Duties: Brief explanations/commentaries in exhibit area/s
Training and support provided
Occasional or Special Event Activities
Welcome visitors, lead groups
Help with set-up for special events (we need a large group of on-call volunteers for this)
Cleaning and sprucing up exhibits as well as cleaning/clearing of “behind the scenes” areas
Preparation and serving of refreshments
Other
