Job Title: Part-Time Director of Education
Location: Northeast Georgia History Center at Brenau University
Job Description:
The Northeast Georgia History Center is seeking a Director of Education to lead its educational programs and special events. This position is ideally suited for retired educators or those with a robust background in education looking for a flexible part-time role.
As the Director of Education, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our educational offerings and collaborating closely with the Executive Director to inspire learners of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
Educational Program Leadership: Design and oversee the execution of educational programs that captivate and educate various audiences, including students, families, and adults.
School Field Trips: Develop and enhance field trip experiences that align with the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Facilitate immersive historical activities and demonstrations to bring history to life for students.
Homeschool Days: Organize monthly themed events during the academic year which draw hundreds of participants. Coordinate with volunteers and living history interpreters to deliver dynamic, thematic content for homeschool families and visitors.
Adult Education: Curate our Forum Lecture Series, selecting expert speakers to engage community members with a wide range of historical topics.
Special Events: Spearhead unique events such as living history portrayals, documentary screenings, historic dance demonstrations, and more with mission-aligned organizations to connect our community to history and cultural experiences.
Qualifications:
Experience in education is required, ideally with a focus on history or related fields.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal intuition.
Ability to work flexibly, including some weekends for special events.
Working Hours: This role requires a commitment of 24-30 hours per week. While the schedule offers flexibility, presence on-site during operational hours is essential. Occasional weekend availability for special events is also expected.
Support Team:
Director of Archives & Curation: Collaborate on integrating specific artifacts into educational programs.
Museum Services Manager: Work together on the logistics of programming, including coordination, setup, marketing, and payment.
Director of the Digital Studio: A unique asset of the Northeast Georgia History Center is its digital studio. We provide virtual programs for students across Georgia, record oral history interviews, produce our podcast Then Again, and create promotional marketing content through the digital studio. The studio is managed by our Director of the Digital Studio who leads all digital content initiatives.
Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This part-time position does not receive health/retirement benefits.
